Logo designs.

After gaining our feedback from people when we sent out a questionnaire about our logo we found that our target audience will prefer a logo with a little bit of colour and so we designed multiple logos which included colour and look more visually interesting.

Test shot

We filmed this clip to practice and get a taste as to what out stop motion will look like as a finished product. As a practice shot we have realised that this is will take a long time but after the result we will persist with our idea as we really like the look of it. In the future when we carry on filming but for the actual music video we have learnt that we need to be more careful such as trying not to knock the props over and keep them in the same place so it'll be a lot smoother. Another thing which will make it look a lot smoother will be when we get a tripod. We should also think about better camera angles as well.

Pulp - Comen People

As part of research and planning I have looked into this music video by Pulp. It has broadened my horizons when it comes to Music Videos. This I directly like the other two I have looked into but it is an incredibly good example of how Goodwins theory can be applied to a Music video.

Logo Research

We gave out a questionnaire to our target audience of people aged 18-25 year old as we wanted to get an honest opinions of our chosen logo design. We wanted to know if the people of the public understood what genre of music our logo came from and all of them understood the genre. We also got feedback such as improvements. nearly all of them said we should add colour because it was too plain and boring. By doing this it has helped us understand what our target audience wants to see.

Music Video Brief

You have been asked to devise and make a promotional music video for the new act 'Tonic'. As a new act, the record label is keen that the first release appeal to a wide audience and establish an image that is both recognisably unique and appealing to their target audience. with this in mind, their first release will be a cover version and will be used as a platform for future original releases. the record label is happy for this release to be any of the three songs listed below and would like you to choose whichever one you can make a dynamic promo for, as the key thing is to get them exposed!

  • One of the reasons as to why we picked this brief is because we really liked the ideas which came with it. We really thought by picking this one we could let our imaginations run wild with the creativity. We felt as if we wouldn't have to focus mainly on the bands imagine and we could really make use of an arty, creative music video. I really like how we aren't that limited when it came to this band as we knew the conventions for a band like this so we understood the brief incredibly well.

Tonic

Rob (25) Sam (24) James (25) and Nick (23), middle class lads.

Started the band in school and through the years eventually got signed to Rough Trade.

Their sound is 'Funky pop with and indie undertone'.

Influences are, Supergrass, Blur, Pulp, Queen.

Arcade Fire - Black Mirror

Codes and Conventions of the Indie Genre

Codes and Conventions of the Indie genre.

In the indie genre there are stereotypical things that are included. From the research we have done we have found out that usual camera shots in a music video within the indie genre include plenty of close-up shots of the band, especially the lead singer.

In indie genre music videos the settings tend to be more urban rather then rural as most of the time it goes with their sound and look.

Editing usually focuses on straight cuts as it is very common in the music videos. They are usually used repeatedly. By doing this it suggests a quick paced lifestyle as indie bands are often known to be always on the road.

In music videos of this genre props such as the band instruments are often used. Not all bands use these as some tend to follow a story and not have them playing in front of a camera all the time.

Costume is a big thing as it represents the band and you can tell a lot about them. A typical outfit would probably include black skinny jeans, hats or even black suits.

The lead singer is often positioned at the front of the band due to it being the person the audience will recognise the most.
